The iconic Duo ( Shins front man James Mercer, and fabled producer Brian "Dangermouse" Burton) continue to explore the ambiguities of genre with their sophomore effort, "After The Disco." This latest releases is a more cohesive entity, in that the sound seems to reflect the sum, rather than its parts, as it did on their 2010 debut. "After the Disco" is an disco laden effort; languid funk tinged with modern indie psychedelia, and ambient elctronica. Some critics have dismissed this album as boring, and par for the course, but fail to see the incredible cohesion of two varied forms of music. "After The Disco" represent the seamless blending of modern and retro, organic and synth, cerebral and superficial. A great effort, from two great schools of thought.
